The Sannio
“Sannio” - seductive and intriguing. This magical land within the Campania region of Italy is lesser-known than Naples and the stunning Amalfi Coast. With its beautiful medieval villages, impressive mountains, lush valleys, and famous, locally produced wines like Falanghina and Aglianico, the secret will be out soon. Guardia Sanframondi, my new Italian home, and four other small towns in the Sannio region were chosen as European Wine City 2019. This video gives you a taste of why it’s so special and one of the reasons I moved here
Guardia Sanframondi
Guardia, or Wardia (in local dialect), is a small hilltop town in the Campania region of Southern Italy. It’s surrounded by lush, green vineyards and olive orchards, and the Taburno and Matese mountain ranges to the south and west. The views are beautiful from every angle. By car, you can reach Naples in only 1 ½ hours and Rome in about 2 ½ hours and there’s a train station 15 minutes away in Telese Terme. You get the best of both worlds; the tranquility and authenticity of living in a mountain village but close enough to everything you need. In no time, you can be at the Amalfi Coast, in Puglia, visiting the Reggia di Caserta, or eating a delicious pizza at the world-famous Pepe in Grani only 30 minutes away. Or maybe take a train to Rome for the day to shop and explore! That’s the beauty of Italy, the ease of travel between regions
