Life in Italy - Cinzia and I Chat about Living in Italy as an Expat
/I feel so honored to have been interviewed by Cinzia of Instantly Italy. She’s an excellent Italian teacher and her website is not only beautiful but filled with resources on everything Italian - culture, traditions, language, places to see, books, and music.
We talk about living in a small village after years of working in San Francisco, being away from family and friends, cultural differences, how my life has changed, and what I miss the most since moving to Italy. Hint - it has to do with food - always! 😋

Here’s a little excerpt:
“You live in Guardia Sanframondi, a small village in the countryside: can you tell us a bit more about the area? Is it worth exploring?”
Guardia, a village of about 4,000 people, is an anomaly because we have a large number of expats who have purchased homes here. It is due mostly to being featured on the TV show “House Hunter’s International” several times. We have expats from Scotland, England, Canada, USA, Australia, and many other countries. Many of them have second homes in Guardia which they visit once or twice a year. Some of us, like me, live here year-round and get to enjoy this amazing life in Italy.
Guardia is located in a wonderful position in Campania. It sits high on the mountain overlooking vineyards as far as you can see. We’re in the heart of one of the largest wine cooperatives in Italy known for its Falanghina and Aglianico wines, easy driving distance to both the Amalfi and Adriatic Coasts, and we are surrounded by the Taburno and Matese mountains.
Guardia is well-known for the Riti Settinnali, a week-long religious event that happens every 7 years, and Vinalia, our wine festival held every August. We were also one of 5 towns in Italy awarded the European City of Wine in 2019. It’s definitely a hidden treasure in the Campania region and in Italy!
