Life in Italy as American Expats - A Chat with Ashley Bartner

Ashley of La Tavola Marche and I went Live on Instagram recently, and it was a blast! I first met Ashley & Jason during a trip to Italy in 2009 after reading about their inspiring story of moving to the Marche region and starting an agriturismo. I was trying to figure out how I could move to Italy one day, and I wanted to meet people who had made it happen. Staying at La Tavola was the best thing that could have happened to me. Finally, in 2017, my dream became a reality, and I moved to the Guardia Sanframondi in the Campania region.

La Tavola Marche has been featured in Food and Wine, USA Today, Gourmet, Italia Magazine, and many more

Ashley & her husband, Jason, a professional chef, offer Virtual Workshops on How to Move to Italy and Start a Business in Italy, cooking classes, and more at their beautiful farmhouse in Marche. They have been featured in Food and Wine, USA Today, Gourmet, Italia Magazine, and too many to list here. My journey of meeting them, moving to Italy, and now having been a guest speaker at their workshops is a bit surreal for me. It’s not always “Under the Tuscan Sun,” but I wouldn’t change a thing!

are you dreaming of moving to Italy and have so many questions? Like…

  • How do I find my dream place in Italy?

  • Should I rent or own?

  • To renovate or not to renovate?

  • What about the language - will I ever learn & do I need to?

  • How difficult is it to get residency? What about citizenship?

  • Big city or small village? North, South, or Central?

We talk about all of this and more.

I really hope you find our chat helpful. ALERT - we are two chatterboxes so hang in there! To help you get right to your topic, I’ve listed the topics & time stamps below. It’s also closed-captioned [click on the box that says “CC” at the bottom right of the video] since the audio is a little distorted in some places.
